Setup · not the feature tour

Make it a second brain, not a bookmark.

ReturnKit teaches its features in the app (Menu → How it works). This page is the setup recipe: how to keep the planner in view and wire capture from laptop and phone so thoughts actually land.

The pairing that works

Most people need three surfaces, not one:

  1. Laptop browser — daily planning, Secretary, deep work. Keep a pinned tab or bookmark.
  2. Browser extension — save any page or selection to Capture without opening the app.
  3. Phone home screen — jot in three seconds; share from other apps; forward email when you cannot stop to sort.

Sign in on each device so Capture syncs. Local-first still works offline; sync is optional but makes the pairing real.

Laptop · ~3 minutes

1
Pin ReturnKit

Open returnkit.life/app, sign in, bookmark the tab or pin it in Chrome/Safari. Light Today is the front door; Full Today is one tap away in the header.

2
Install the Capture extension

Add ReturnKit Capture from the Chrome Web Store. Open ReturnKit while signed in once — the extension pairs automatically (capture-only key; it cannot read your planner).

Right-click any page → Save to ReturnKit. Select text first to save a snippet. Shortcut: Alt+Shift+S.

3
Optional: bookmarklet

In the app: Capture or Settings → Capture from anywhere → drag Save to ReturnKit to your bookmarks bar. Useful on Safari or if you prefer not to use the extension.

iPhone · ~5 minutes

1
Add to Home Screen

Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen. Opens full-screen like an app, works offline, and can open straight to capture (Settings → Phone opens ready to capture).

2
Set up the Shortcuts door (recommended)

In the app: Capture → expand Send to ReturnKit Shortcut. Two minutes: builds a Share-sheet action that POSTs to your Capture inbox. Screenshots can run Extract Text first.

3
Forward email to Capture

Forward newsletters, school closures, receipts to capture@returnkit.life from the email on your account. Subject becomes the title; body text lands in Capture. Add a second sender under Also accept from if you forward from another address.

This address can only add notes — it never reads your planner.

Android · ~2 minutes

1
Install + share sheet

Chrome → menu → Add to Home screen (or Install app). ReturnKit then appears in the system Share menu from any app — share a link, text, or page; it opens on Capture so you see it arrive.

iPad

Same as iPhone for Home Screen + Shortcut. Plus: you can write into any text box with Apple Pencil — iPadOS Scribble turns handwriting into text as you write. Full ink canvases (margin notes) are coming; Scribble already works in every field today.

Daily rhythm
  1. Morning: Open Light Today — name what is loud, pick Top 3.
  2. During the day: Capture from extension, phone, or forward — sort later in Capture.
  3. Evening: Triage Capture → tasks or life areas; journal if you have space.

Nothing auto-becomes a task. You always triage. That is intentional.

Two guides, on purpose

This page = setup and pairing.
Menu → How it works (in the app) = what Light Today, Body, MomOps, and Secretary do.
Menu → Roadmap = what is shipping next.
